Western Dressage Competitions

About Western Dressage

Western dressage blends the principles of classical dressage with western horsemanship, asking horses to perform precise movements while maintaining a relaxed, western frame. The discipline emphasizes lightness, balance, and harmony, proving that the art of dressage transcends saddle style.

Western dressage tests are structured similarly to traditional dressage, progressing from Basic through Advanced levels. Horses are shown in western tack and perform movements at the walk, jog, and lope. The WDAA offers a robust test library and a national ranking program. The discipline attracts riders crossing over from both traditional western and classical dressage backgrounds, making it one of the fastest-growing equestrian sports in the U.S.
