About Dressage
Dressage, from the French word for 'training', is the art of developing a horse's natural athletic ability through progressive exercises. Competitions evaluate precision, harmony, and the horse's responsiveness to subtle aids at walk, trot, and canter.
Dressage tests progress from basic gaits and geometry at Introductory Level to highly collected movements like piaffe and passage at Grand Prix. Freestyle (Kür) tests allow riders to choreograph movements to music, combining technical difficulty with artistic expression. The USDF awards medals at Training through Fourth Level and manages a national ranking system. FEI-level competitions feature international judges and Olympic-caliber movements.
Dressage riders can find dressage saddles and show tack on TurnoutHQ, or make use of instant answers on the rules.
