    About Vaulting

Equestrian vaulting is gymnastics and dance performed on a moving horse. Vaulters execute compulsory and freestyle movements, from mounts and stands to handstands and flips, on a horse cantering in a circle on a longe line. It combines athleticism, artistry, and horsemanship.

Vaulting is competed individually, in pairs, and as teams of up to three performing simultaneously. Compulsory tests include seven required movements scored on execution and form. Freestyle routines are choreographed to music, with difficulty and artistic merit factored into scores. The AVA (American Vaulting Association) governs the sport in the U.S., and FEI-level competitions lead to World Championships. Vaulting is one of the most accessible entry points into equestrian sport for young athletes.
