    About Halter

Halter classes evaluate a horse's conformation, breed type, and overall quality while standing and moving in-hand, no saddle, no rider. Champions in halter represent the ideal physical standard for their breed, and top halter horses can command significant breeding value.

Halter classes are divided by age and sex: Stallions, Mares, and Geldings in yearling, two-year-old, three-year-old, and aged divisions. Judges evaluate balance, structural correctness, muscling (particularly in stock breeds), breed and sex characteristics, and quality of movement at the walk and jog. Grand and Reserve Grand Champions are selected from division winners. At the AQHA World Show, halter is one of the most competitive divisions, with horses valued at hundreds of thousands of dollars.
