    About Polo

Polo is a team sport played on horseback where mounted riders use long-handled mallets to drive a ball through goal posts. Known as the 'Sport of Kings,' polo combines horsemanship, strategy, and athleticism in fast-paced chukkers across grass or arena fields.

A polo match consists of four to six chukkers (periods) of 7 minutes each. Teams of four play on a grass field measuring 300 by 160 yards, the largest field in organized sport. Players change horses between chukkers to keep mounts fresh. Arena polo is a three-player variant played indoors on a smaller field. The U.S. polo season centers on Wellington, Florida in winter and the Hamptons in summer, with the U.S. Open Polo Championship as the sport's premier domestic event.
