About Fox Hunting
Fox hunting is a mounted field sport steeped in tradition, featuring riders following hounds across country. Modern fox hunting includes live hunts (pursuing coyote or fox), drag hunts (following a laid scent), and hunter paces, all celebrating bold cross-country riding and hound sport.
Organized fox hunts in the U.S. are governed by the MFHA (Masters of Foxhounds Association), which recognizes over 150 active hunts across the country. Hunts are led by a Master and Huntsman, with the field following hounds through varied terrain. Proper attire, ratcatcher for informal hunts, formal livery for Opening Meet, is part of the tradition. Hunter paces, team trail rides timed at an ideal pace, have become popular entry-level events. Many hunts now follow drag (artificial) scent or pursue coyote rather than fox.
Fox Hunting riders can find stocks and field kit on TurnoutHQ, or make use of association membership tools.
