    About Endurance

Endurance riding is a long-distance competition testing a horse's stamina, speed, and condition over courses typically ranging from 25 to 100 miles. Veterinary checks at mandatory holds ensure horse welfare, and the motto 'To finish is to win' captures the sport's ethos.

Rides are categorized as Limited Distance (25–35 miles), Endurance (50–100 miles), and multi-day events. Horses must pass veterinary checks evaluating heart rate, gut sounds, hydration, and soundness at mandatory holds. The AERC tracks mileage awards and maintains national rankings. The Tevis Cup (Western States 100) is America's oldest and most prestigious 100-mile ride, covering the rugged Sierra Nevada trail from Squaw Valley to Auburn, California.
