Para-Dressage Competitions

About Para-Dressage

Para-equestrian (para-riding) is competitive dressage and driving for athletes with physical disabilities, governed by the FEI at the international level. It is a Paralympic sport showcasing the harmony between horse and rider regardless of physical limitation.

Para-dressage is the primary competition format, with athletes classified into five grades (I-V) based on functional ability. Grade I athletes have the most significant impairments, while Grade V athletes have the least. Tests are modified versions of standard dressage tests, with compensating aids (modified reins, Velcro attachments, voice commands) permitted based on classification. The U.S. Para-Equestrian program operates under USEF and selects teams for the Paralympic Games, FEI World Championships, and other international competitions.
