About Barrel Racing
Barrel racing is a high-speed rodeo event where horse and rider navigate a cloverleaf pattern around three barrels in the fastest time possible. It demands explosive acceleration, tight turns, and precise timing, often decided by hundredths of a second.
The standard barrel pattern uses three 55-gallon barrels arranged in a triangle. Riders choose to take the right or left barrel first, then complete the cloverleaf and sprint home. Divisions include Youth, Open, and Futurity classes for young horses. The WPRA sanctions professional-level competition, while the NBHA offers divisional formats that group riders by skill level. Major events include the NFR (National Finals Rodeo), the BFA World Finals, and the American Rodeo.
Barrel Racing riders can find barrel saddles on TurnoutHQ, or make use of rider groups on TurnoutHQ.
